Unemployment and appearance
Sir, — I am shocked and hurt to see people such as Lindsay Smith and J. Stead (July 5) accusing all unemployed people of being unem-
ployable and unwilling. In doing so they classify a huge number of people, mainly young, as useless and worthless. Is it any wonder people do not want to work when would-be employers take such a degrading attitude? Times are tough all round, it seems, so why pick on those worse off than oneself? — Yours, etc., NICOLA TAYLOR. July 5, 1983.
Sir,—ln reply to Lindsay Smith (July 5), he should advertise in “The Press” the next time he wants to employ someone. I get very annoyed with the people who create distorted statistics to back up their claims about people who are unemployed. — Yours, etc., G. L. CUTLER. July 5, 1983.
