‘Koha’ to return on Monday
“Koha” will return on One on Monday night, with a slightly changed format. The producer, Ernie Leonard, said he was making an effort to introduce two, or sometimes three, items on a variety of subjects, giving viewers a wider choice of material. “Viewers who tune in late will not get a chance to see a completed story.” On Monday night “Koha” will look at the display of artefacts in the Maori Court; at Auckland’s War Memorial Museum; and Dr Mary Jane Paparangi Reid will offer advice on first aid for children. This will be one of several programmes she will be doing dealing
with the health and welfare of the Maori people.
“Koha” will also screen a report on the recent Maori Artists’ and Writers’ Society hui.
Subjects being screened this series will include Maoris in sport, where the programme will examine why they are better in some sports than others. The preservation of important areas in Auckland from a historic point of view will also come under scrutiny. The biggest feature of this series would be the screening of a two-part profile on Dame Whina Cooper, one of the “grand old ladies of Maoridom,” said Mr Leonard.
