Rubbish workers back
Christchurch City Council rubbish Workers returned to work yesterday after striking for three days. The council has agreed to discuss the dispute which led to the strike at a meeting with union representatives today, chaired by a conciliator, Mr B. P. Gray.
The workers claim compensation for having to collect twice the normal amount of rubbish on any one day. The unions say that the council should either provide additional crews and vehicles, or some sort of compensation. The organiser of the Canterbury sub-branch of the Labourers’ Union, Mr G. R. Lomax, said that Mr Gray would try to help the parties reach agreement on the dispute.
