and his family “changed direction” and came to New Zealand. They had been invited to Christchurch by the Jewish community here, who helped them settle. In the photograph, from left, are Mr Tankhilevicb, his daughters Esther, aged four, and Maria, aged 10, and his wife, Maya. They were among 55 people who became new citizens in the ceremony.
