Gang neighbour of Parliament
PA Wellington The Mongrel Mob has moved in next door to Parliament. The gang’s previous Wellington house was bulldozed to the ground on Saturday after being destroyed by fire, leaving members without a permanent home. A new home was found for them yesterday in Hill Street, not far from Wellington Cathedral and close to Parliament Buildings and the Government centre. The chairman of the Whanganui-a-tara Maori Community, Mr Bill Maung, said the Maori wardens had
found a house for the Mongrel Mob and the committee had agreed to guarantee its rent. “We cannot have these boys on the street,” Mr Maung said. “Under the Maori Welfare Act the Maori wardens are the committee’s responsibility, and they asked us to guarantee the rent.” “We do it for the Black Power and the Nomads, and so we will do it for the Mongrel Mob.” Mr Maung agreed there probably would be complaints by neighbours.
