Strike cost $4M
PA Whangarei Construction workers returned to the Marsden Point oil refinery expansion job yesterday after a strike which the contracting consortium, JV2, estimates has added $4 million to the total cost of the project. The 2000-strong workforce walked out on June 17
after four men were injured in a flash fire. After several rounds of talks and a set of safety measures imposed by Government inspectors, the site union committee recommended the return to work on Friday. A JV2 spokesman said the main' added cost was a matter of escalation.
