Trotting to have chief stipendiary steward
PA Napier The New Zealand Trotting Conference has been empowered to appoint a chief stipendiary steward. The conference’s annual meeting in Napier was told the position was allowed to lapse on the retirement of Mr Len Butterfield in 1978. Since then Mr Harry Fryer, of Auckland, has
been the senior stipendiary steward of a panel of seven. Mr Walter Hartley, urging restoration of the position on behalf of the Thames club, said that varying penalties and apparent lack of uniformity in stipendiary stewards’ decisions was causing great concern. The remit succeeded by an overwhelming majority.
