Clyde ban endorsed by Otago drivers
PA Dunedin Dunedin members of the Otago Drivers’ Union yesterday voted to endorse their ban on the cartage of goods to the Clyde dam site. A big majority of the 450 present were in favour of reimposing the cartage ban (which will effectively prevent material moving on or off the site), said the union’s secretary, Mr B. G. Reid, after the meeting.
He said the industrial action was in response to the negative reply the union had received from the Clyde dam contractor, ZublinWilliamson, regarding the resumption of negotiations for a composite agreement. “They didn’t guarantee negotiations would resume,” Mr Reid said. The drivers also agreed to support the Federation of Labour’s $2O wage rise campaign.
