Joint venture chosen

PA Wellington A New Zealand-Australia-West Germany joint venture company has been chosen to carry out the Ohinewai opencast mining feasibility study, the Minister of Energy, Mr Birch, has announced. RWL Consultants is formed by Rheinbraun Consulting CMBH, a major opencast mining consultant, of West Germany; Worley Consultants, Ltd, a large engineering and geo-techni-cal consultancy, based in Auckland; and Longworth and McKenzie Pty, Ltd-N. H. Cole and Associates, mining and economic consult-

ants, based in Sydney. The Ohinewai feasibility study, costing about SIM, is due to start soon and should take about a year. Mr Birch said every effort would be made to maximise local input. The presence of a local partner in the joint venture would help achieve this. The company would liaise with consultants already working on an environmental impact report on Ohinewai coal developments. The feasibility study and environmental impact report should be completed about the same time, he said.
