Award for doctor

Dr Stephen Brenan, of the department of clinical biochemistry at the Christchurch School of Medicine, has been granted an award which will enable him to undertake highly selective experimental work and explore the possibility of collaborative studies at medical research laboratories in Cambridge, England, and Chicago. The award was the first established to mark the tenth anniversary of the Christchurch Clincal School of Medicine. For the last eight years, Dr Brennan, aged 35, has been a member of a group at the clinical school that has studied changes in proteins that cause inherited

diseases. His particular interest has been in the final process that makes proteins biologically active.
