Theft of bicycles
Sir,—Leoriie Stevens (June 18) has my sympathy regarding the theft of her son’s 10-speed bicycle recently. My son has unfortunately, suffered the same trauma, in duplication, within the last five months ... having had his BMX Supermax taken from the Queen Elizabeth II Park cycle sheds just before Christmas, and the replacement (purchased with the aid of the insurance company) stolen also, at the end of April, from his Linwood Intermediate School disco. Both the bicycles were securely locked, but this it seems does not deter people who have no scruples or conscience. The second bicycle was eventually found, by the police, but it was so unrecognisable it might have been resurrected from the city dump. Those who have yet to witness a child’s reactions at having a treasured possession taken have my condolences; those who cause these reactions have my disgust. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) G. HOUSE. June 18, 1983.
