Air pollution
Sir, — Having just read J. Lound’s letter (June 15), I am appalled by yet another one-eyed statement. Does the writer really believe that Christchurch people enjoy the pollution in the city? When faced with massive electricity bills — ripple control that cuts off hot water and heating when it is most needed; closing because of lack of Government support of our large supplier of clean-burning coke — there is no option for the family but the open fire and wetback. Recently I tried to purchase a well-known, nationally advertised, clean-burning wood fire. I was given a delivery date of September as the Auckland manufacturers had “North Island orders to fill” — plus 10 per cent more on the price for the privilege of residing south of Cook Strait. A little oral communication from your correspondent from the welllit, natural gas endowed, warmer climes, would have been more constructive. — Yours, etc.,
J. THOMPSON. June 15, 1983.
