Mount John

Sir, — Your editorial (June 15) once more resurrects the straw man of Mount John and Black Birch being allegedly nuclear targets, only to knock it down again. Informed opponents of both the United States military installations never have and still do not make

any such nuclear target claim. This is not the basis of our opposition at all. As you correctly say, no United States insfallation in New Zealand is anywhere near as strategically important as the ones in Australia, such as North West Cape, Pine Gap, and Nurrungar. So do not congratulate yourself on demolishing arguments of your own invention. People wishing to learn more about the above-named strategic United States installations in Australia are welcome to attend the first Christchurch screening of “Home On The Range,” organised by CAFCINZ. This won the 1982 Best Australian Documentary Award. — Yours, etc., MURRAY HORTON,

Secretary, Campaign Against Foreign Control in New Zealand. June 15, 1983.
