General forecast A cold front is expected to lie over the southern South Island in the morning and spread north-eastwards over the South Island during the day, accompanied by freshening cold south-west-erlies and occasional showers. This front should move on to the southern North Island by evening. Districts forecasts Canterbury: Fine at first with light winds changing in the afternoon to fresh cold south-wester-lies with showers and some snow down to 500 metres.
