Ward pets rejected
A request to keep pet animals in the children’s jlayground at Christchurch lospital has been declined. The hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr D. A. Andrews, said its administration was “very pro-ani-mals” but there were problems. The pediatric ward which had the playground, Ward 24, closed for two weeks at Christmas and at
times there were too few ward staff to look after animals. Members of the Christchurch Round Table club which built the playground had offered to build cages for small animals such as guinea pigs. The idea was suggested by the co-ordina-tor of the child and family psychiatric unit, Professor Philip Ney.
