Bridge Player for Owens
Special correspondent Woodville Bridge Player has come through his race at Ellerslie last Saturday well, and will now be set for the Owens Trophy at Tauranga on June 25, according to his trainer, Mark Oulaghan. Winner of the Owens last year, Bridge Player is unlikely to have another race before then. He ran a fine race for third in the Cornwall last Saturday, and would have been harder to beat if he had got clear sooner. Cullimore and Our
Charlie were able to put a break on the Woodville galloper, but he finished strongly. There were a few gallops yesterday morning in preparation for the Manawatu meeting tomorrow. Trials were held on the middle of the course proper. It was puggy and times were slow. Vicki Deming ran 800 m in 56.45, the last 600 m in 41.55. She is a form runner in the City Handicap. Jim Walker will ride her. Lady Fair ran 1200 m at little better than three-quarter pace. She ran
i the race of an improver last ■ week and is in the Farewell I Handicap. Starglow took lmin 8.7 s ; for 1000 m, the last 600 m in 41.25. She looks well and is i in the Suburban Handicap, i Chimeric worked over a E round, having pace on early, i He took lmin 26.8 s for the last 1200 m and 43.2 s for the i final 600 m.
