Lakewood Drive

Sir, — As a relative newcomer to Christchurch and to Lakewood Drive I write in support of L. A. Davidson (June 11) because I have also been concerned about the volume of traffic this street is

subjected to. Through your correspondent I now know a bit of history. If it is true that Lakewood Drive was originally a cul-de-sac then I wonder why it was opened up. It is a short cut for everyone in the north-east area and must have transferred a lot of vehicles from other routes to this one street. The volume of traffic is bad news, but of even more concern to me is the combination of speed and reckless driving that we see daily. It is almost as if the gentle winding curves entice some to increase speed. I take it there have been no accidents to date and I sincerely hope there will dot be any, but all the ingredients are there. — Yours, etc.,

GRAHAM ISITT. June 12, 1983.
