Two interest-free loan schemes are administered by the Christchurch Municipal Electricity Department. One is for the installation of approved solar water heaters, and the other for approved electric heaters that are to replace open fires in living rooms. The first of these is a
Government scheme, available to all electricity consumers in the M.E.D. area.
The second is a Christchurch City Council loan scheme offering up to $250 an application, and is available to city ratepayers only. In addition, the M.E.D. has requested approval to offer loans of up to $l5OO.
These would be available where a small hot water cylinder has to be
replaced by a larger one because a “wet back” is lost in the conversion to Electric heating.
