Dept approves 13 price rises
PA Wellington Thirteen applications for price increases under the hardship provisions of the Crice freeze were approved y the Trade and industry department in the week ended June 8. Five applications were declined and 10 withdrawn. In the same week, 32 applications were received. During the period, the department received 74 complaints that the price freeze had been breached. The chief categories were groceries (21), fees for services (10), and restaurantstakeaways (8). The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Templeton, said that during the
week the department completed investigation of 43 complaints. In 39 instances the prices charged were found to be in order. Details of some of the 13 hardship applications apt proved are: Ashley Meat Processors, Christchurch, an increase of 20 per cent for sheep killing charges; Motor Holdings (Wholesale), Ltd, Auckland, an average increase of 3.2 per cent fr Subaru sedans; Nieuwenhuize Smallgoods, Ltd, Christchurch, an increase of 14 per cent for beersticks and smallgoods; and Sandy’s Dairy, Christchurch, an increase of 20 per cent for takeaway food.
