Holmdale for survey

The Chathams trader Holmdale is about to undergo her annual survey. After she has finished discharging her cargo today at No. 2 East, she will shift to her regular berth at No. 7 West for the survey. Marine authorities will look over the 911-ton vessel while her crew will carry out general maintenance on her, doing such jobs as repainting work. The 22-year-old vessel usually has her survey at Lyttelton at this time of year. However, this time she will not go into the dry dock. She returned from her latest voyage to the Chathams on June 8 and is not scheduled to set sail there again until July 2. She will start reloading cargo about June 27. The Holmdale has been very much in the news lately now that the Hawke’s Bay Harbour Board is trying to have the Chathams service based at Napier instead of Lyttelton. Consequently, a Canterbury delegation, comprising businessmen and representatives from the Harbour Board, will fly to the Chathams in July to persuade the islanders that they are best served from Lyttelton.
