N.Z. market opens strongly
The New Zealand sharemarket opened the week on a strong note in busy trading yesterday, in contrast to the recent easier trend. Chase Corporation was the most prominent price change, gaining 70c to 570 c, after making a profit report and announcing plans of a share split. Auckland Gas stood out among the falls, losing 30c to 310 c, but its Wellington counterpart, Welgas, gained 20c. The mining and oil sector was firm and active, accounting for about a third of the total market turnover. Oil issues, Cue Energy and NZ Oil and Gas, both rose in busy trading.
