First class to Hobart: economy class home. That was the procedure which allowed me to sample the various standards of service and comfort that TAA offers its passengers. (The airline now also offers an additional class for business travellers in keeping with many other international airlines). TAA’s Saturday flight QF392 was scheduled to leave at 4.35 p.m. Boarding was painlessly completed 10 minutes before departure and we were away from the blocks on the dot. '
A pre-flight choice of orange juice or champagne was offered (juice only in economy class) together with a selection of that day’s Australian newspapers. The 727 was about two thirds full — 107 economy class passengers and six in first class.
