Shuttle perched atop Europe
NZPA Stanstead The space shuttle, Enterprise, perched on the shoulders of a jumbo jet, soared above Paris, swooped over the low countries, then followed the River Thames to London yesterday. The flight climaxed a whirlwind overseas tour that attracted hundreds of thousands of aerospace enthusiasts.
From Antwerp to Reykjavik, Europeans cheered the g 40American engineering marvel on its three-week mission to boost American prestige, and the shuttle’s cargo sales. The shuttle was the undisputed king of the Paris air show, where more than 100,000 people watched it take off after 10 days on display at Paris’ le Bourget airport.' After posing at the aircraft door with large French and American flags, pilot A. J. Roy took the Boeing 747 and its precious cargo into the skies An equal sized crowd greeted Enterprise at Stanstead airport, north of London, afer it had made low passes over Brussels and Antwerp, Belgium, Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
