Big Softie for U.S.

Big Softie, runner-up in both the New Zealand Oaks and the North Island Oaks, and third in the $42,500 D.B. Flying Fillies Stakes this season, is to do her future racing in North America. Big Softie, and the rising 11-year-old South Canterbury pacer, Kingsdown Lad, a strong late finisher for second to Toshack at the Canterbury Park meeting last Friday, were purchased this week by the Central Standardbred Agency and will leave for the United States tomorrow week. Big Softie, a Nevele Bigshot filly trained in recent months at Kernftownby Bichard Brosnan, is destined for California, while Kingsdown Lad, a C 5 Waitaki Hanover gelding trained at Timaru by Lester Curry, is to race in New York.
