Bymai, Otago’s representative in the Great Northern Hurdles, galloped satisfactorily under a big weight on the No. 1 grass at Riccarton yesterday morning and was flown from Christchurch to Auckland later in the day. Bill Hillis, who is in

charge of Bymai on the trip,also partnered the Sobig gelding for 1600 m over a rain-affected track in Imin 53.85, the final 600 m in 42.65. Bymai has done most of his racing as a ’chaser in the last year, but he won; the Grand National Hurdles, the Otago Hurdles, and the Trentham Hurdles as a six-year-old two seasons ago.
