Jack Frost sold to Sydney stable
By
J. J. BOYLE
Jack Frost has been sold to a client of a Sydney stable for a substantial fivefigure sum, and will not race at the Otago winter meeting. He won three races, including the Waikouaiti Blue Riband and the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Three-Year-Old Stakes, from Michael Pitman’s Riccarton stable after being purchased cheaply last summer. Pitman will still have four runners at Wingatui. One of them, Tipsy Too, was
paired with Sovereign’s Will to run 1200 m on the No. 1 grass at Riccarton yesterday. They recorded 52 for their last 800. Magellan came up with the fastest 800 m gallop of the morning. He showed characteristic keenness to return 48.8, the last 600 in 36.6. Magellan hung badly on the turns at Oamaru last week, but that run, his second after a spell, should have had conditioning value for his engagement in the Wrightson Bloodstock Handicap at Wingatui to-
morrow. Afore Ye and Paddy Speed, runners for the Garth Jackson stable at Wingatui, finished a satisfactory trial on terms. Afore Ye worked away from the 1600 and Paddy Speed joined in near the 1400. Afore Ye got through the 1600 in Imin 475, and the stablemates cruised through the final 800 in 51.6. Jendra hurried in from the 800 in 49.8, and Arafura Sea and Full Floater came up with 49.
