Best records in club badminton
Geoff Miller and Rosey Stanton, half of the strong Railway team, are the only A grade badminton players to be unbeaten in all six rounds of the senior competition this season. Both are playing No. 2 in singles for Railway, which has a big 24-point lead at the top of the table. That they have not beeen beaten is predictable. Miller is still an excellent performer, while Mrs Stanton has conceded just one set in her six victories.
A third Railway player, Jane Clarke, has won her five singles contests, having missed the third round game against Bryndwr 11. Canterbury’s top-ranked individuals, Peter Whiting and Alison Ross, are also unbeaten. Whiting has played five matches, and Miss Ross four, for their respective Hagley teams.
Miller and Mrs Stanton have a 100 per cent record in their five mixed doubles matches, as have Graham Sercombe and Miss Clarke.
In addition, to round off a formidable list, Mrs Stanton and Miss Clarke, who will be Wisden Cup national championship team-mates this week-end, are also undefeated. Miss Ross and her doubles partners, Jenny Hood and Brian Williams, have won four out of four matches. Only three regular A grade players have yet to break their singles “duck” this winter — David Reid (Bryndwr II) and the Hagley II duo of Tonia Watts and Michelle McMullan. To add to their misery, Miss Watts and Miss McMullan have been unable to register a doubles win either.
