‘Big Rig’ show
Sir, — With regard to G. Haywood’s letter (May 31) expressing disappointment with “Big Rig ’B3”, my family and I also found it fell short of our expectations. It was too cramped and we thought the children “decorating” the rigs, distracting. But what were they supposed to do there? Riding in a big rig might have occupied them. Full-colour posters, books, model kitsets, magazines, badges, etc. could have been an added attraction. Why were not motors, gearboxes and other big rig components displayed along with various semitrailers, some of which are manufactured locally and developed especially for New Zealand conditions. Most exhibits were poorly presented and some were not “big rigs” — just common trucks. In Australia they are moving away from static displays to the more popular truclw in action shows, where the tfig rigs are seen in
action. I really feel sorry for G. Haywood, travelling 100 km to see what I feel was a half-hearted attempt at what could have been a very exciting event. — Yours, etc., KINGSLEY C. BURRELL. June 1, 1983.
