Man lost trousers, house
PA Hamilton A Taupiri farmer robbed of his trousers, underpants, and money after drinking at his local tavern arrived home in a police car to find bis house in ashes. The police said that the farmer, aged 51, a bachelor, left the Taupiri tavern about 10 p.m. and got into a car he thought was a taxi. Three men in the car robbed him of his trousers, underpants, and money, leaving him on the road near Huntly, the police said.
The man found his trousers and alerted the Huntly police. “He was taken home by the police to his farm in the early hours of the morning and found his house was just a pile of ashes,” said Detective Sergeant R. J. Miller. The police presumed that the fire and the robbery were connected, he said.
