Protest ‘fun’ — M.P.

The protest by Prebbleton residents against Meadow Mushrooms, Ltd, on Saturday was yesterday dismissed as “good, clean fun” by the member of Parliament for Fendalton, Mr P. R. Burdon. Mr Burdon, who is a director of the company, said that most of the protestors were friends of his. They carried placards saying, “Prebbleton stinks big. We are sick of our

Burdon.” The demonstration was held to catch the attention of delegates to the National Party’s Canter-bury-Westland conference at Lincoln College. However, Mr Burdon said that the complaints were “grossly exaggerated” and that the residents knew of the company’s moves to reduce the smell. They were simply out to enjoy themselves and bad nothing better to do, he said.
