Work freeze as protest
PA Auckland Staff of freezing works at 10 upper North Island plants, and boiler operators at dozens of Auckland foodprocessing and manufacturing industries, are expected to spearhead industrial action during the week to combat the wage freeze. More than 5000 workers — members of 12 unions within the freezing industry — will hold a 24-hour strike from midnight tonight. The stoppage is expected to shut the 10 works including the Tomoana plant at Hastings.
