Time against protesters
Time is against the Bishopscourt Action Committee’s plan to block the Bishopspark development by . having a protection order slapped jon the property. . i A spokesman for the Canterbury regional committee of the Historic, Places Trust, Mr A. C. Loach, said that it would be at least 12 months before the Minister of Internal Affairs, i Mr Highet,
would have the authority to issue a protection notice. The process was a long and laborious one, especially as Bishopscourt had not yet been formally classified, he said. Mr Richmond Paynter, the joint manager of the developing company, Paynter and Hamilton, Ltd, said yesterday that by the time a preservation order had been secured, the com-
plex would be completed. He also said that the action committee should recognise that any classification would apply only to the building and that the company did not plan any alterations to it
“In fact, we would love a preservation order on the building so that nobody else could touch it,” Mr Paynter said.
