Plenty of room in the inn

By

LES BLOXHAM,

travel editor A statement by the Canterbury Promotion Council’s executive officer, Mr Bruce Dunstan, that few beds remain for visitors to Christchurch at Queen’s Birthday week-end has upset the manager of Noahs Hotel, Mr K. E. A. Krausse. Mr Dunstan said in “The Press’’ on Thursday that intending visitors would now be “very lucky” to find a vacancy. Mr Krausse said that his hotel yesterday was only half booked for next weekend. He still had 928 beds in 464 rooms available for the

period June 3 to June 6. He said he knew that a number of other Christchurch hotels also had vacancies. “I am concerned that Mr Dunstan’s comments might deter would-be visitors from even thinking of coming to Christchurch for the holiday week-end," said Mr Krausse. In a bid to counter the adverse publicity, Mr Krausse is now offering rooms at a reduced rate of $65 a night for single or double occupancy between June 3 and June 6. The regular rate for a double room at Noahs is 390.
