Top clubs to meet
The two University senior rugby sides will be especially anxious to record wins today. In spite of one or two setbacks, University A remains the strongest-looking side in the competition, but if it is to win the first round C.S.B. Cup it will probably have to beat Marist today. Marist, unbeaten so far, is three points clear of Univer-
sity A and if it can stretch this to five it will very likely have established a winning break. Marist has not always been consistent, but it has played well when it has needed to and today will be another such occasion. It does have some injury problems, and could be seriously disadvantaged by the absence of its main line-out jumper, Pat O’Gorman.
While University A is engaged in its top-of-the-table clash, University B will meet Hornby and both these teams will be looking for their first points of the season. University B’s losing sequence, in fact, goes back to 1981 and takes in 37 games. This equals the record losing run which Sydenham experienced in the mid-19705.
