Tait to cut staff
Tait Electronics, the Christchurch-based firm which in 1981 won an export award, is having to reduce its staff of 330 because of a lack of export orders. In 1981 it exported $7 million worth of goods, mainly to Australia and the United Kingdom, but also to many smaller countries. One of its most recent coups was a $250,000 order for two-way radio equipment to an oil
company working in Brunei. Tait was established in 1969 and expanded rapidly from its Manchester Street factory. It is now in the former premises of Fabiola Fashions in Wairakei Road. The firm’s managing director, Mr A. M. Tait, said that talks were being held with the staff, and an announcement would be made today on the numbers of workers affected.
