Form puzzles abound at Oamaru meeting

By J. J. BOYLE There are some tangled skeins of form to unravel at the Oamaru Jockey Club’s first winter meeting tomorrow. Jumpers will have their rightful place in the scheme of things. But two of the most talented of their number, Lord Hymac and Taitan, will be running on the flat; the promising hurdler Owhata Son will be racing over country; and C’mon Sal, which has been performing with some credit as a ’chaser will be seen out as a hurdler. Thoughts about the principal flat races will encompass track conditions, and for many horses those conditions might be markedly different from those for recent racing at Riccarton, Wingatui and Invercargill. Another question mark over the 1600 m Norwood Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double, concerns Magellan, the class horse of the field. He is only one race back after a spell and top weight of 57.5 in a big field could make some demands on the star of Helen Preston’s stable.
