Science award

Mrs Gillian Shanks, a senior technologist at Christchurch Hospital, won the Mallinckrodt award for technologists at the recent annual scientific meeting of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine in Perth. She is the second North Canterbury Hospital Board technologist to have won the award in the last two years. Mrs Shanks’s prize-winning paper was prepared jointly with last year’s prize winner. Miss Clare Lynskey. Mrs Shanks, a senior technologist in the thyroid laboratory of the hospital’s department of nuclear medicine, presented a paper about the development of a measurement system which has the potential as a tummour marker and as a

means ot assessing kidney damage. The award consists of a trophy and a travel grant, to be used to help both authors of the paper to travel to an approved conference.
