P.D. for antiques burglary

A man earlier convicted of burgling the premises of Merivale Antiques, from which antiques and silverware, valued at $3665 were taken, was sentenced to periodic detention for eight months by Judge Fraser in the District Court yesterday. Anthony Paul Lau, aged 17, was also appearing for sentence on charges of unlawfully taking a car, receiving a $3OO cassette radio, and driving while disqualified. The Judge told Lau, who did not seek legal representation, that the offences warranted a prison sentence. But rather than impose such a sentence, he said, he hoped a sentence of periodic detention would offer some hope of reformation.

Lau told the police the property taken from Merivale Antiques had been left under a car in the inner city because he did not know what to do with it. When he went to retrieve it the next day, the property had disappeared.
