Search after report of fall from ferry
PA Auckland An extensive search yesterday failed to find any trace of a man believed to have fallen from a Devon-port-bound ferry on Saturday evening. A young woman said she saw a man fall from the ferry Kestral about 400 metres after it left Queens Wharf at 7.40 p.m. She reported the incident to the crew who returned the vessel to the ferry terminal and called the police. The Coast Guard, police, and other rescue units
searched for the man into the night The police resumed an extensive shoreline search of the area yesterday. Nobody had been reported missing to the police. The Auckland Coast Guard also reported that it assisted three boats in difficulties in gale-force winds on Saturday. A “Save your Gulf’ armada opposing plans for marine farming in the Hauraki Gulf postponed a waterborne protest on Saturday because of the weather.
