An elderly Fowler steam locomotive from McLeans Island about to set off yesterday on a 3km run along the old Waiau branch line towing railway waggons loaded to capacity with passengers. The locomotive was one of two giving joyrides during the twoday carnival held by the Weka Pass Railway Society at Waipara. The society is raising funds for a tourist train on the old Waiau line, closed since 1978.
