St Andrew’s surprises
The young St Andrew’s College first XV scored a notable rugby victory, 9-3, over St Thomas’s College on Saturday. St Thomas’s had previously beaten the powerful St Bede’s combination.
Scott Barclay played a very good game at full-back for St Andrew’s, scoring all his side’s points, with three penalty goals. Stephen Price kicked a penalty goal for St Thomas’s.
With some dazzling back play, Burnside High School drubbed Xavier College, 316, five tries to one. St Bede’s beat Linwood High School, 18-0, with Brendan Wright, the No. 8, and Jeremy Smith, the halfback, scoring tries. Terry Clemens kicked two conversions and a penalty goal, and Tony Ziolo kicked a dropped goal.
