The day in Parliament

PA Wellington Parliamant ended its final sitting day of the year’s first session at 1.35 a.m. yesterday. After the conclusion of the Address-in-Reply debate, the Opposition unsuccessfully moved a motion of no-confidence in the Government. It lost, 38-39, on a division.

The Leader of the House, Mr Thomson, moved that the House adjourn for an

indefinite period. The motion was carried on a division, 39-37.

Mr Thomson then successfully moved that select committees be given the power to sit during the adjournment and that the Commerce and Energy Select Committee be granted approval to travel throughout New Zealand hearing submissions on the Synthetic Fuels > Water Rights Bill.
