Upsurge in crime keeps police busy
An unusual upsurge in crime has made the last few days demanding ones for the Christchurch police. Apart from an already heavy “routine” workload, the police have had to deal with a fatal shooting, and wounding, armed robbery, gang warfare, possibly suspicious deaths, and a jewellery raid. A number of detectives have worked 13 days in a row, with some going offduty at 9.30 p.m., only to be called back just after midnight. Uniformed police had also had to work tor many more hours than usual, a spokesman said.
