Slaughtermen unhappy about technology talks
PA Dunedin Otago and Southland slaughtermen are unhappy about the lack of progress in talks in the meat industry over the introduction of more machines into freezing works. The secretary of the Otago-Southland branch of the Meat Workers’ Union, Mr E. M. Miller, a member of the consultative committee discussing the issue, said
that at the committee’s last meeting “we seemed to be going backwards.” Slaughtermen were most unhappy about the failure of the joint company-union talks. The committee talks have been proceeding for two years, and are intended to smooth the introduction of employee-replacing machines, such as automatic pelters, in freezing works.
