$200,000 in research grants

Almost . $200,000 in research grants has been awarded to Lincoln College, the college’s council was told yesterday. The biggest grant is $37,000 for a joint project on pastoral hill and high-country farming. The project is being supervised by Dr J. A. Hayward, of the Centre for Resource Management, and Dr T. D. Heiler, of the Agricultural Engineering Institute. The Ministry of Works and Development will provide $20,000 of the funds, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research will pay $9OOO, and the Ministry of Agriculture, $BOOO.

A three-year study on the effects of river control works on riverbed levels and bank erosion has been awarded a $31,530 grant. The Water and Soil Division of the Ministry of Works Will fund the study by Dr T. R. H. Davies, of the agricultural engineering department.

Mr R. Lough has been awarded $19,500 for a road dust evaluation. The Waikato County Council and three other councils will pay the grant. A study on the economics of the Arrow irrigation scheme by Mr M. J. McGregor has been awarded a $19,250 grant.
