19 cars broken into in Arthur’s Pass area
Nineteen cars parked beside the Arthur’s Pass highway were broken into during Anzac Day week-end. The thieves had apparently been interested only in cash, said Constable Jerry Rivett, of Otira. Such was the thoroughness of searching for money that the seats of some cars had been removed. Cameras and other valuable gear, such as climbing equipment had been ignored by the thieves, said Constable Rivett.
Most of the vehicles were broken into by forcing the quarter-light windows. They had been parked at various roadside spots between Klondyke Corner and The Bealey River bridge.
