Grain, seed dept moves to city
Dalgety New Zealand, Ltd, will move its grain and seed export department from Wellington to Christchurch, the recognised centre for grain and seed production in the country. Three Dalgety grain and seed staff will move from head office to Christchurch: the New Zealand grain and seed manager, Mr G. G. Sewell, his assistant, Mr R. J. Curragh, and the documentation officer, Mr S. M. Falvey. The company’s New Zealand arable manager, Mr C. T. Mortlock said the decision to shift, the section to Christchurch recognised the city as a research and production centre and would allow closer access to Dalgety producing branches, their staff and grain and
seed clients. Dalgety believed the relocation of its grain and seed section in the pivotal production region would be of considerable assistance in its export operations, Mr Mortlock said. The company aims to stimulate increased grain and seed activity in its contributing branches in the Canterbury region and thus improve its market share in the area. Trading effectiveness would be improved by 'the shift to Christchurch, Mr Mortlock said. Dalgety’s grain and seed section is part of its arable department, which is also involved in an agronomy research and development operation at Timaru and proprietory cultivar production and marketing.
