London David HemplemanAdams, back in Britain after failing in his bid to be the first man to walk solo to the North Pole, has blamed bad luck for what happened. Mr Hempleman-Adams, aged 26, from Bristol, abandoned his attempt last week after falling off a block of ice which badly bruised a rib. He was rescued about 240 miles north of the Pole and said in London that he has debts of between $12,000 and $25,000 as a result of chartering the aircraft which rescued him. He intends to sell equipment to raise the money and hopes his sponsors might help. Mr Hempleman-Adams set out from Ward Hunt Island in Canada in the middle of last month.
