CANTERBURY MUSEUM TRUST BOARD NOTICE OF LOCAL BILL NOTICE is hereby given pursuant to Standing Orders of the House of Representatives that It Is Intended to Introduce in the House of Representatives a Bill intituled “An Act to make better provision for the constitution of the Board of Trustees of the Canterbury Museum Trust Board, for control of the Canterbury Museum, and for the finances and administration of the board." The objects which the Bill is Intended to effect are:— (1) To state the constitution of the board, and prescribe the manner of appointment, election, and resignation of Its members to be elected or appointed by contributing authorities and other nominated bodies. (2) To provide for the chairmanship, quorum, and conduct of board meetings. (3) To define the functions and powers of the board, which, in addition to the control and maintenance of the Canterbury Museum, Include the custody, ownership, and display of material, particularly of New Zealand, Pacific, and Antarctic origin, and research and education in relation thereto. (4) To authorise the delegation of the board’s functions and powers to persons and sub-committees. (5) To define the contractual powers of the. Board, and set out procedures for receipt of grants, payment of funds, management of its finances and property, and to authorise employment of staff. (6) To authorise the making and collection of levies by the board against local authorities, and to set out the method for their as- ’ sessment on the basis of population and land value ratios. (7) To empower local authorities to levy special rates to provide the amount of their contribution to the board’s levy.(8) To make provision for the borrowing of funds by the board, their investment and expenditure, and the preparation and audit of annual accounts. (9) The schedule of contributing authorities comprises the City of Christchurch, the Districts of Walmalrl and Ranglora, the boroughs of Lyttelton, Rlccarton, Ashburton, Kalapol and Ranglora, and the Counties of Heathcote, Paparua, Akaroa, Amurl, Hurunul, Cheviot, Ellesmere, Eyre, Malvern, Mt Herbert, Oxford, Walrewa and Ashburton. Copies of the BUI may be inspected at the offices of the Canterbury Museum and the District Court during office hours without fee during the period ending on the 11th day of May, 1983.
