Guide for new buyers

“Choosing Your First Computer,” a book published by the New Zealand Computer Society as a guide to the manager of a smaller business, is now available in bookshops.

It is written by Mr lan Mitchell, an Auckland computer consultant, and Professor Bevan Clarke, a professor of accountancy at Canterbury University.

The book is intended for the manager who has no experience of computers and no interest in electronics or in programming. It is directed towards microcomputer systems rather than larger computers.

“Choice of a computer needs good management,” says the book. “You must not make a hasty decision but must take the time to become better informed about computers, computer systems and the computer industry.”

Sections of the book tell what a computer can and cannot do, provide background knowledge about computers, discuss options available, advise how the choosing and implementation of a new computer should proceed, and give a sample request to suppliers for Proposals. “Choosing Your First Computer System” is priced at $6.95.
